FUNdamentals of Contact

Cost: $12 (or pay $15 and stay for the jam)

Description

Come to this class for exploration of nuts and bolts of FUN. If you are a beginner, or if you have studied contact improvisation here and there, and would like to deepen your skills, this class is a great opportunity for you. Join us for investigation of presence, listening, weight, structure, curiosity, play, communication, safety and the very point of contact. Get personalized feedback and dance it through in a class with two instructors. Using somatic practices as a FUNdation for contact dancing we will demystify the phenomenon of Rolling Point of Contact.

This class is going to have a simple structure of a short tuning using somatic material, exploration of one or two fundamental principles and then lots of time for integration through dancing.  (Read more …)

Structure and Some Themes

Approximate structure of the FUNdamentals class:

  • Short warm-up tuning on the ’sensing body’
  • Exercise time (exploration of one of the CI principles)
  • Focused exploration with a partner in a dance score
  • Integration – time for OPEN dancing with a partner
